ADSAR/SARTECH I

Advanced Search and Rescue (ADSAR) prepares experienced responders to operate as effective crew leaders. This 36‑hour NASAR course builds on FUNSAR skills and focuses on leadership, crew management, advanced tactics, SAR dog integration, safety, and stress management.

Developed by seasoned SAR professionals nationwide, ADSAR provides the critical knowledge needed to lead teams, coordinate with search managers, and influence successful mission outcomes. It delivers advanced, practical guidance not found in other SAR courses and is essential for responders moving into leadership roles.

ISAR/SARTECH III

ISAR/SARTECH III provides foundational training for anyone entering search and rescue. This 16‑hour course covers the core responsibilities, skills, and equipment needed to operate effectively in rural and wilderness environments, while offering a solid knowledge base for all SAR settings.

As NASAR’s entry‑level certification, ISAR/SARTECH III gives new responders a strong starting point and serves as an excellent refresher for experienced personnel. It builds consistent skills across teams, supporting safer, more efficient SAR operations and future training.

Managing the Lost Person Incident (MLPI)

Managing the Lost Person Incident (MLPI) is NASAR’s advanced-level course designed for responders who are ready to step into the critical role of SAR management during lost person incidents. This course provides a comprehensive framework for leading and coordinating search operations—from the conclusion of initial response through the expansion of the mission and ultimately the demobilization of all resources.

MLPI focuses heavily on the Search element of SAR and equips students with the leadership skills, decision‑making processes, and operational strategies required to guide a mission toward a successful outcome. Participants learn how to develop effective SAR Incident Action Plans (IAPs), gather and organize essential information, and apply proven management tactics throughout all phases of a search.

This is not an introductory course. Students should already possess strong foundational knowledge of search and rescue operations. Completion of ICS 300 and familiarity with SARTopo (orientation and training) are highly recommended prior to attending.

MLPI is the first true management-level course in NASAR’s SAR training series and is ideal for responders preparing to serve as part of an initial response SAR Management Team or those seeking to advance their leadership capabilities within SAR operations.

FUNSAR/SARTECH II

The NASAR Fundamentals of Search and Rescue (FUNSAR) course provides essential knowledge and practical skills for anyone entering the SAR field. This training builds a solid foundation in search strategies, navigation, wilderness first aid, agency coordination, and the legal and ethical aspects of SAR operations.

Participants learn core roles and responsibilities, develop effective search planning and survival skills, and gain confidence operating in both urban and wilderness environments. FUNSAR is an invaluable starting point for new responders and a meaningful skills refresher for those already involved in search and rescue.

Search and Rescue Initial Actions (SARIA)

Search and Rescue Initial Actions (SARIA) prepares first‑on‑scene personnel to make fast, effective decisions during the critical first hour of a missing person call. This course teaches a proven, systematic approach that increases the likelihood of quickly and safely locating lost or missing individuals.

Designed primarily for front‑line law enforcement, SARIA is also highly valuable for Fire, EMS, and Search & Rescue responders. Participants leave with clear, confident action steps that strengthen early search efforts and improve overall mission outcomes.
